My Sketchy WordPress Past

Hello, there.

I am happy to be returning to the WordPress universe. I disappeared without much of a heads-up, but readers familiar with my WP history have seen this act before.

Lather, rinse, repeat. I have been treating WordPress like an Etch A Sketch over the last couple of decades and after a couple of years or so, I just wipe the content away and start anew.

(I probably dated myself a bit with that Etch A Sketch reference…)

I have always missed communicating with bloggers during time away from WP, but due to a couple of recent developments I acquired a much greater appreciation for how very rare this community is. WordPress readers and commenters have provided me most of my favorite interactions over the last couple of decades. You folks have regularly been more interesting and knowledgeable than those whose paths I intersect with in-person. (No worries…none of them read blogs…)

Kudos to Mrs. B for helping me realize WordPress is a hobby I want to enjoy for the long haul, and she also advised if I ever demonstrate the slightest indication I want to leave WP again, she will covertly make herself the administrator of this space to ensure its safety…and then ensure I’m still checking in on my favorite bloggers even if I’m not actively posting.

While I write infrequently, I pride myself on being a frequent reader and commenter. I look forward to catching up on some of your older posts, as well as connecting and engaging on all new and future ones.

Thank you for stopping by. I look forward to reconnecting with my WordPress pals…and hopefully making new ones as well.

  1. BRUCE!!!!
I was sure you were gone for good this time. So, you should get your wife as an admin, pronto! You shouldn’t disappear like this again on us. It might hurt our delicate feelings. I know I almost had a feeling. I don’t like when I have feelings.

As for catching up, good luck! Hahahahahaa. I’ve been like a firehose in the posting department 😀 Don’t drown….

    1. Mr. B!!! So nice to be back…and my wife is making sure another departure ain’t happenin’. Feelings are the worst. I look forward to drowning in posts over your way.😊

  2. Hey, Bruce! Good to see you around these parts again. I hope things have been going well for you and yours. Looking forward to your upcoming posts. Take care, and have a good rest of the week. 😊

  3. Oh, my Goodness, Mr Chess! 😀 I can’t deny it, I was worried about you. I’m very glad to see you back and doing well. Mrs Chess is a very smart and wise lady. I recommend taking her warnings very seriously, please. Welcome back! 🤓🥂

  4. Well, heck! I resubscribed (so sorry but I thought you were gone for good!), commented….and nothing. Probably in junk mail. But It is so good to see you back here again!!

  5. Thanks for visiting my site. I would be thrilled if you’d write a guest blog post for my site. If you think it might be fun or helpful to have my followers (who total about 10k across my various social media) meet you.

        1. Reid, at least you’re running forward trying to score points. I trust you saw Kyle Monangai when he started to run backwards recently. That made me lol. As for Nebraska, I think this could still be a big year for them. Shame they couldn’t come up with a few more points against the Maize and Blue.

          1. I saw that Monangai run, indeed. It was laughable! Regarding Nebraska, our son Trev is now a freshman at UNL. We drove out to visit him and went to the Michigan game. It was amazing! Unfortunately it was another close loss, but I agree with you that Matt Rhule is turning the program around as predicted. I have high hopes. Thanks for your comments!

  6. Welcome back, Bruce … and best wishes on the new digs. I’m not sure if my memory is accurate, but I’m picturing that this is your third blog that I’ve known you! Blogging is a good hobby – make that a great hobby when one fully commits. I stepped away because I knew it was the right time FOR ME, and I don’t regret it. Meanwhile, my Reds have a chance for the playoffs, although getting thumped last night by the Buccos isn’t a good feeling. They must bounced back the next two because they close the season by visiting the Brewers. Ouch!

  7. Frank, thanks so much for the best wishes. I have admired and appreciated your commitment to quality blogging all of these years. I’ll be rooting for your Reds to finish strong!

  8. Nice to see you back, Bruce. I have a strange relationship with WP too, I think. Sometimes I want to step away, but then, this is where most of my “friends” are. Do I really want to? No, not permanently. Maybe just for an adventure or two. 🙂

    1. Thanks very much, Diana. I could not agree more about the WP friends part. I have developed a deep appreciation for the quality conversations and knowledge here, and I really missed everyone. Had to come back!

  9. Wives don’t play around! My wife is happy I have this outlet because how many times can I tell her how great Big Star was before she starts screaming?
I’m glad you decided to come back…you are one of my favorite commenters.

  10. Think we’re in the same boat…glad you put an oar back in, keep paddling your thoughts! I haven’t stopped writing, just not doing creative stuff much…turned activist, protestor, lots of editorials. Your wife’s a wise lady!

  11. Bruce! Great to see you back and I wasn’t too keen on that “here one day gone the next” thing you did. As I age that’s a bit too much shock when someone mysteriously disappears…if you know what I mean. I for one am going to hold Mrs. B to her ultimatum so please let her know I appreciate her a lot 🙂

    1. Deb, I totally understand the lack of enthusiasm for not giving a heads-up I was headed offline. I do appreciate your returning here, and I absolutely will pass along your appreciation for Mrs. B.😊

  12. Welcome back Bruce! I can understand why you took breaks and even started a new blog. I have only been blogging since Feb 2017. Even though my blog is on cooking, I consider it a hobby and love my blogging family.

    1. Thanks, Diane! I have used a number of recipes and ideas from your site before, and it will be great reading it once again. Nice to be part of that blogging family.

  13. Welcome back Bruce! Sadly, at this point I don’t always notice when bloggers disappear unless they make a special announcement. But it was good to hear from you again. Older readers always come with great insight for someone in their 30’s such as myself.

    1. E.F! Thanks for stopping by again. I am gonna stick with my chessboard. I really liked it on the prior site. Thanks for the endorsement.♟️😊

  14. SO glad you’re back, Bruce, and your words about our WP blogging community are so true and ring with gratefulness. I feel the same way. I’ve been ‘out’ for a little more than a month – rare for me – but sometimes the hours turn into minutes, and we still need to find time to breathe. Let’s you and I find lots of breathing space for our blog posts!

  15. Pam, so glad to be back! I like having (another) fresh start, and to be honest I have enjoyed reading and following the WP community as much as posting anything myself. I do have to find lots and lots of breathing space for my posting activity…because when I have more legit quiet moments…that’s often when the best creativity kicks in.

    1. Geoff, so good to see you back here…well, not back here exactly…but you know what I mean. I have some challenges mastering staying put with technology…but will also try to stay connected!
