Cereal Minus Milk

Soooo…I am eating my bowl of cereal this morning (not an actual picture above, today’s cereal was minus milk…I do that on occasion) when I get a reply from a WordPress user my comment was just found in their spam folder. While not quite done my bowl of cereal minus milk, a second WP user commented my comment was just found in their spam folder.

One incident is one incident. Two incidents might be a pattern.

I then went back to some WordPress sites I left comments on the day before, and they have yet to appear. Perhaps they need to be moderated…or perhaps those comments might be found in their spam folders.

I have had no issues like this on WP previously, but certainly have heard quite a few stories like this over the years from other users.

If you see anything unusual coming from my corner of WordPress, I would appreciate hearing from you. Regularly scheduled programming will resume here once/if my IT Department (me) determines the site’s status. Thanks.

  1. When I do not have milk, I put orange juice on my cereal. My Dad used to do it even when he was not out of milk! I only know that I have had comments disappear to spam because in the past some commenters have sent sent me notes to check my spam folder! When I just checked, nothing was there which only makes me more suspicious!

  2. Bruce–I am so glad you wrote about this, because I went back to check my spam folder–and there you were! Yes, this is definitely a pattern. What is going on with Word Press? Your ‘like’ of my post went through just fine, so why didn’t your comment? I guess only the Shadow knows, but this is a wake-up for me to be more vigilant in checking my spam folder.
Granola with yogurt is good. Not sure how it would be with any other cereal though. Straight up no milk, eh? You are tough!

    1. Thank you for letting me know, Lois. On one hand, it is hard to be too frustrated because I know WordPress has gone off the rails for many others. On the other hand, it really hisses me off because not only is there no known cause, there’s no reason it can’t now become a “thing.” Blueberry Nut Crunch without milk…yes, tough guys eat Blueberries!

  3. Yep, just found you in spam regarding my last post a few days ago. What is WP trying to tell you Bruce? Everything has been fine so how did you piss WP off? 😉

  4. You need to visit Akismet (the evil company that deals with the comments via wordpress) at:
    akismet.com/contact
and select the “I think Akismet is catching my comments by mistake.” option. Proceed from there.

    1. Mr. B, I have submitted my case to the Akismet, but was unable to peek behind the curtain to see if anyone was home. Hopefully, they are. Thank you for your assistance.

      1. They will eventually email you. It might not be until next week though. So just keep doing what you’re doing and hopefully people will do a better job of checking their spam folders (I check mine daily for just this type of occurrence).
Always glad to help. Been in this very situation SEVERAL times, so I know the feeling :-/

            1. So funny…several seconds after I got the “all clear” from Akismet I got an inquiry asking to hear about my customer service experience with them. Folks, I have no earthly idea if it works yet…AND I don’t know if you even know why it happened in the first place…perhaps we should grade some actual performance post-fix before “assigning grades?”😄

  5. Your comment reminded me that I always forget to look in my spam folder. It’s been weeks since I took a peek. 98% of the stuff was spam. It is interesting to me why sometimes emails from the same sender end up is different folders.

    1. Pete, I’ve been on and off WP for a couple of decades and it hadn’t “bitten” me until now as far as spam was concerned. No logic on landing in those different folders to be sure.

  6. Ahhh! This happens to me as well. A reminder to look at the spam filter/folder in WP more often so dear friends’ comments don’t get stuck. And…cheers to cereal sans milk. Me, too, every now and then. I like the crunch. 🥰

  7. I hope you get it resolved soon! WordPress can be frustrating. I haven’t had the problem with my comments going to spam, but I have often had to keep logging in over and over again in order to leave comments.

  8. WP can be such a bind sometimes. The mysterious spam thing happened to me and there was no earthly reason for it. It seemed to right itself, at least I assume it did!

    1. Ruth, it is so frustrating. I guess it was my turn. I know a lot of folks have been “bitten” from time to time. You made me laugh…”I assume it did!”

  9. Hey, Bruce. I’ve never had your comments end up in my Spam folder, fortunately. I’m just super-distracted these days and have fallen behind on replying. Just thought I’d let you know.

Also, cereal w/o milk rocks. I’m lactose-intolerant so I eat my cereal dry all the time. All the cool kids do it, or so I’ve heard. Just sayin’. 😎

  10. I’ve had that happen to me where other peoples comments were caught in my spam. I would find them a week later… the first thing I think of is the person that left the comment must think that I’m rude for not replying. I just checked mine Bruce…no spam comments from ya.
Like Mike U…I am lactose-intolerant but I found that lactose free milk! First time I’ve been able to eat and enjoy cereal since I was a kid.

    1. Thanks, Max. Yeah, I have gotten the occasional spam comment on my site which did not belong there, but I never was “accused” of being a spammer myself. Good ‘ol WordPress. Kudos for lactose-free milk for those who need it!

  11. What makes it odd is that earlier comments from you have gotten through. So it’s like something was triggered. No fun!

As for dry cereal: look, it’s OK to stick your hand in the box and grab a mittful of crunch if you’re hungry (at least if nobody else is sharing the box). But a whole bowl of cereal without milk is weird. Definitely weird.

  12. Chaplin: “WordPress commenting is a mysterious maze of traps and deadfalls! We have blog commenters who have been following us for literal decades and still their comments go to spam and have to be fished out. Every. Single. Time. But WordPress never learns!”

  13. WP does that sometimes, places comments of people you’ve previously approved in the spam folder. Since you’ve only recently returned to WP, those people may need to approve your first/initial comment. I’ve made it a habit now to check my spam and ‘pending comments’ folder every week or so, in case someone ends up in those folders in error. I hope the issue is now resolved for you. 🤓

    1. G, so far so good. While no one explains why it happened in the first place (or why it won’t happen again), at least for now I’m good.🤓

  14. I like cereal right out of the box since nobody else would be eating it. I used to buy Cinnamon Toast Crunch and when I had a sweet craving and nothing sweet in the house I would grab some. I’m really behind on comments but your comment didn’t go to my spam box.

  15. Will let you know if I see anything amiss. Both Fandango and myself are getting flooded with views from China. It’s really putting our stats askew.

  16. I hope you have sorted that out.

As for the cereal, I used to love them but I don’t know what happened… i can’t recall the last time I had a bowl

  17. Yeah, I need to keep checking my Spam as well.
Multiple comment notifications have ended up here.
As a result, I apologize if my responses experienced considerable lag time
    😔

    1. Lance, no worries. Over the years on WP, I have occasionally had someone’s comment show up in spam, but I personally had never had the “pleasure” of being a full-time spammer myself until now. The situation was fixed quickly, and I am grateful for that. Of course, you never know what triggered that…so you never know if it will return someday. 😲
